Awesome Foreign Word of the Day: Ya’aburnee
Ya’aburnee (Arabic): literally meaning ‘you bury me’, this is the hope that a person or loved one will outlive you as to spare yourself the pain of living life beyond that person.
Pronounced: Ya-ah-boor-nay
يقبرني
Look at that. Just LOOK at that. Not only is the meaning of the word and general pronunciation like some sort of linguistic explosion of awesome, Arabic just has to go ahead and also be notoriously gorgeous to look at. Maybe its just me, but it feels like melted butter to my language obsessed ears and when i look at it I just want to stroke it. I think it would be soft. But the meaning, oh the meaning! I love English, I truly do, but I am so painfully envious of the availability of words like this. If we had a word for such a concept as Ya’aburnee I could stop sounding like such a jerk when I tell my loved ones that I will murder them if they die before me …
